My husband handles Tuesdays. I handle everything else, which isn’t quite fair, but Tuesday is when the kids have football and I have a standing work call I can’t move, so Tuesday is his.
The unofficial roster
Chiropractor and dentist appointments: whoever’s free that week books it, no fixed assignment. School lunches: me, because I’m awake first. After-school snacks: him, because he’s the one doing pickup. It sounds complicated written down. In practice it runs on a shared calendar and about four text messages a week.
The one item that appears on both our shopping lists, independently, without either of us asking the other to buy it, is dates. He buys them because they’re easy to hand a kid in the car. I buy them because they don’t need refrigeration and survive a school bag until 3pm.
Where the chiropractor fits
It went on the roster last year after our son mentioned his shoulder ached after football. Not an injury, not a diagnosis — a posture check, booked the same way you’d book an eye test, and it landed on my husband’s Tuesday because that’s the day training finishes closest to the clinic.
Keeping the stash stocked
Whoever notices the tub is low restocks it, usually from the Dates Fruit section, sometimes browsing the wider healthy food range if we’re planning a bigger shop. It’s one of maybe three household decisions we’ve never had to argue about, which after eleven years of marriage is worth something on its own.
